You've got a high pain tolerance. If you had a chance to do it again, would you?

[He furrowed his brow, thinking about the best way to answer that.]

I think I would. The pain was excruciating, and I won't lie - I've never wanted to die before, but that got me pretty close to thinking it. But I made it through. And I made it through. If I absolutely had to do it again, I would.

[That sounded nothing short of intense, but he'd been there with that option for an end-- a desperate move for a permanent solution... Though going into it voluntarily...]

Is it heavy? Temperature give you a problem?

[knocks on it a little, just a light wrapping with his knuckles]

Sensation?

Not currently, but Winry did mention that it can get stiff and achy in very cold temperatures.

[Something to look forward to next winter.]

It's heavier, but not so much that it's caused any problems so far. And feeling...well, there isn't any. The best I got from that was a little vibration up my leg.

So basically you're learning to walk with a heavier leg?

[Very cold temperatures being a problem... and he was already not a fan of the chill and cold that winter brought. If he went along with this, he'd have to opt for the summer.]

But overall you feel more satisfied? Is it just you and Toothless?

[Being alone wasn't a problem for Eugene on account of having Jack around, but he imagined it would be more difficult with a dragon, in Hiccup's case...]

[He shook his head.]

I've had friends helping me out, as well. Believe me, it makes exercising a lot more pleasant when you have someone to talk to.

Trust me, if I didn't have Jack around when I lost my leg, I wouldn't be anywhere near as... as well-adjusted about it as I am. [Not to mention he wouldn't mind helping him with his exercises in an effort to learn them, for his own sake as much as Hiccup's]

I didn't expect there to be such a support group around here, considering the loss of a limb isn't an every day thing for most people. It's nice. What exercises do you do and when? I want to give a hand. And in return you can be on our radio show and talk all you want about dragons.

[Because they were going to be doing that soon. So long as they had enough material to keep it afloat]

Oh - uh...[ He blinks. ] Right now it's mostly just taking small walks. With the crutches. Winry says I shouldn't try anything more than that yet.

[He looks at Eugene curiously. ] But...what's radio?

The additional leverage of your leg must be nice, though. The automail, I mean. [He was pretty certain he'd go for the automail, even despite the risks. If Hiccup could manage and was doing well then he shouldn't back down.

But then the question caught him by surprise and he stopped short on his examination, both brows rising]

Well, a radio is a transmission device, picks up radio waves. They carry the sound so that you can hear me from a distance with the right receiver.

[Picks up his journal and points to it with a half-grin] Sort of like how the voice bit on your journal works, but instead of it being to one person, it's to whoever has your signal.

[ His face lights up, making the connection - yes, he was sure he'd read books talking about radios before. He'd never really thought about having them in Luceti before. ]

Oh! I see. That sounds pretty neat, actually.

Yeah, me and Jack are hoping to get a radio show started soon. The response was so positive that we can't help but try.

[Clears his throat and has a look around, rubbing the back of his neck]

It's very useful for long-distance communications. Though with something as cool as dragons you probably don't need radios, huh? Speaking of dragons-- do they speak? How intelligent are they?

[ Hiccup shakes his head, looking a little relieved. ] I'd probably have a lot less friends if Toothless could talk. He's not always the nicest to new people. But he's smart. Very smart. Definitely one of the smartest breeds.

Smart as in a good judge of character? Do they smell fear? How'd he even come to be your dragon? [Sometimes people would find the direct questioning to be invasive, but he hoped Hiccup would see he was genuinely curious. It was, after all, much more interesting than speaking of his own origins.]

[ Hiccup is used to answering plenty of questions about dragons, so he's used to this. ]

He's a pretty good judge of character - bratty to a lot of my friends, honestly, but he trusts who I trust. He knows when danger is around, I think they have a pretty good sense for that sort of thing. And my dragon...well, that's kind of a long story.

[ Which he'll tell, if Eugene's up for it. ]

Trust me, I have got more than enough free time on my hands now, I don't know what to do with it all.

[Bratty dragons? He was prepared if this Toothless turned his nose up at the gift he'd brought him. Couldn't just pretend like they liked everyone on first meetings. Especially when there were things like friends being protected.]

So, where'd you two meet?

[ Hiccup smiles fondly, thinking of home. ]

Back on my island, Berk. We've got dragons everywhere, but we used to fight them. We thought they were pests. See, the funny thing is, I kind of met Toothless by...shooting him out of the sky.

[ Yup. ]

[Lowering a brow, he couldn't help but chuckle and scratch the back of his head-- unsure]

Not exactly the best of first impressions. Don't dragons breathe fire? If you shot him down what's to stop him from frying you to a crisp?

[ Hiccup nods. ] Sort of. They destroyed a lot of our buildings, but they did it to steal our livestock. But surprisingly enough? When I found him, he didn’t burn me to a crisp.

So he was hungry, got shot down, spotted you, and then decided he wasn't going to exact revenge? Hunger and anger are very powerful motivators to do unpleasant things...

[Tips his head and looks him over]

So why do you think he didn't?

I...I think it was because I freed him. He was trapped, and I could have killed him, but I freed him instead.

...Wait, are dragons held slaves or something by each other?

[But now, well... he realized belatedly that he was getting way off subject, and Hiccup probably had other things to atten to, by which he was... taking away from that. Clearing his throat he wondered if maybe he should take his leave...?]

Did you injure him?

[ He looks sheepish at the question, even if it's far from the first time he's had to answer it. ]

...Yeah, actually. He was caught in trap I made and his tail fin was damaged when he fell.

[Somber for a moment, he cleared his throat, considering to speak of nicer things instead of how these two seemed to have a tumultuous past]

So...

[And he asks this next question with a measure of glee, grinning and wringing his hands together]

Does he have extra wings from coming to Luceti or the same old...?

[ Hiccup shakes his head. ] Uhuh. He doesn't have a journal, and he doesn't get experimented on. It's strange.
