The initial shock of losing his balance and bracing for impact was jarring when he thudded against something warm and less hard than the ground. In fact, he hadn't expected Beat to be able to move that fast at all and he blinked several times before glancing up to look at his face.

Then he smiled, sheepish, laughed softly. It was a little embarrassing, a little absurd, but he was kind of glad. It was nice to have someone older to look out for you.
