Allllright, listene-- I mean, Lucetians. Eugene, here and It's been a while since my last broadcast-- in fact, I think me and Jack have fallen off that bus entirely. [At least temporarily, while Jack's deafness was still in effect...] Still, I'm reaching out to all of you today to try and share some helpful information.

As we are all aware, Luceti's in a bit of a... time warp, I guess? Anyway, with the time warp means that our rations are more like rations than they were before.

The good news for you all is that I happen to have developed a survivalist's cookbook during my time back home. And for those of you who don't know, that's during a pretty heinous apocalypse filled with zombies and mad scientists. I can't actually make this up.

I've developed these recipes on the go, adding a few from some other survivalists, and have personally indulged, so I can vouch for their nutrition. Can't always vouch for the flavor, but priorities...

I'm helping out with tilling the fields, so if you want a copy, I'll be happy to provide. Or, add to the collection! I'm always happy to hear about new combinations to put food together. Just drop on by, maybe bring me some water? God, I miss A Shot in the Dark...

Can't say I ever tried it myself, but I heard from someone there was a diner somewhere that had turkey, strawberry jam, cereal sandwiches.

That sounds like an interesting combination. Do we have cereal here to try? I'm guessing fruit loops isn't going to be a prime choice for that kind of a sandwich, but... maybe unfrosted flakes?

They can't, as far as I know. It would be pretty useful if they could.

Gosh, I must be a terrible boyfriend for forgetting Jack can't actually hear this-- but at least he can read it?

[There's a very long pause as Ginia stares at the journal before her face scrunches up and she laughs silently. Oh. Oh dear. It's a very easy mistake to make and there's been several occasions where she's encouraged the thought to get more information, but this was entirely unintentional.]

No, Eugene, I'm not deaf. I'm mute. My hearing is fine. [Well, mostly.]

The journals won't transcribe, but if you want me to write things down for Jack I'd be happy to.

... And then there's that possibility I hadn't considered.

[ The silence had been unnerving, but she didn't seem mad through the text... not that-- not that one could realistically determine mood through text. ]

No, no, I should show Jack this stuff-- he'd be pretty cross with me if I didn't.

I absolutely promise I mean it when I say it's not the first time someone's thought that. Common mistake. No hard feelings at all.

[Just to make sure. Now back to the important topic.]

I think any neutral grain cereal would work well, but if there's wild turkey around, forget the sandwiches. Let's start with the roast.

Roast sounds amazing...

The trick is getting the turkey, but I bet I know someone who can do it...

I don't mean to brag, but with enough time and a good oven, I make the most amazing roast turkey. Golden brown skin with the right amount of crisp, moist meat that yields off the bone, it's beautiful.

All the more motivation to have someone catch a turkey for us.

I mean, it's criminal just to describe it like that and then leave it where it is. I'm sure others would agree.

We are slowly getting toward the long stretch of holidays. Perfect excuse to break out the cooked turkey, mashed potatoes, and prime rib recipes.

Or a late Thanksgiving, since yours truly celebrates it much earlier than those folks in the states do. It... slipped my mind this year, in fact...

[ It hadn't, actually, but with all the goings-on, Eugene knew that making a fuss over a holiday that he was the only one likely concerned about seemed selfish. Childish to the point that he scolded himself internally for being nostalgic over it ]

So, you know... cookoff with interest?

A cookoff with interest or the potluck to end all potluck. Either way, everyone wins.

So, how about a little friendly competition between friends?

I'm game. How about later, when it wouldn't be such a strain on supplies? [And by later, she means in the present. More food, electricity, it's a bit more even ground. She hopes Eugene will pick up on that.]

Ah-- true. Yeah, look at me getting carried away.

[ It wasn't as much of a disappointment as originally realizing that the end of the world was bereft of good food. There would never again be a five star restaurant for him to try the latest dish at. ]

Y'know, me and Jack are going to indulge in a time capsule type thing. Leave a message in there...

No worries. Let's face it; there's not much to do around here so anything is exciting.

That's a good idea. Looking for more things to put in it?

There's plenty of work to do around here. Which never seems to see an end. But I dunno, sometimes there's a charm to having so much work.

It wears off quick, though.

We are looking for more things to put in it. And to dig it up once we're back-- if we ever get back. Got any suggestions? We don't mind if it's amusing.

Words of wisdom are always good. A pity there's no way to put pictures in it. Maybe you can get Tyr to sign something.

You could always draw something in there. Treasure maps. Old versions of Luceti.

Oh, Tyr-- maybe. That would be an interesting signature. ...The people already here probably won't come back with us, will they...?

There's a good idea. A map with some "hidden treasure" marked somewhere?

[It's a little mean, yes, but also funny. Besides, part of the fun is the adventure, not the treasure in the end.]

Probably not. There'd probably be problems if that happened.

Recipe book, huh? We've been going crazy trying to figure out what to make with what we've got, so I could definitely go for that. As for sharing, there's never a limit to what you can do with rice. Perfect, bland rice that goes with everything and fills you up.

Admittedly you are absolutely correct. Rice blandly does go with anything, but it needs to have some flavor.

I mean, I wouldn't be caught-- well, wait, let me take that back.

If I had the option to make a dish with rice that had some flavor, I'd do it.

Jack's got a thing for nettles. Have you ever eaten one of those?

I'd like to see what you have. And I can contribute a bit, being from the past originally.

Most of the dishes involve roasted or stewed rodents. And the many interesting things you can combine with cans.

I'll be happy to share-- what kinds of recipes are you thinking of contributing?

[Ew, rodents? Really?]

Fish and rabbit. Those were eaten the most in my country, and more recently chicken, but considering the lakes here have fairly good fishing in it, the fish recipes might be most useful.

Fish recipes sound amazing, to be honest. I don't think I have any of that... couldn't really trust the lake water to be free of... ah, contaminants. But here? Completely different story. I think you're on to something.

Where are you from?

Was your situation that dire that water was unsafe to drink or eat from?

I am originally from Edo, but we moved to Kyoto a year before I came here. Ah- In Japan, if you have that in your world.

Yes, it was. But that's why we are in fact, delighted to be in Luceti.

We do-- or did, have a Japan. To be honest, I don't know what remains politically.
